Statement on the Introduction of TPA Legislation

Washington, D.C. – Today, Gina Woodworth, Internet Association Vice President of Public Policy & Government Affairs issues the following statement on the introduction of TPA legislation:

“The Internet is the great American export of the 21st century, and it is time U.S. trade policy reflects the integral role that digital trade and the Internet play in our modern economy. The Internet industry recognizes the importance of trade for U.S. economic growth, but the approach to IP in the current TPA package has not been substantially updated for the Internet era. It fails to adopt a balanced approach, including the recognition that limitations and exceptions in copyright law are necessary to promote the success of Internet platforms both at home and abroad. We look forward to working with Congress on this issue to ensure that protections critical to the Internet are hardwired into trade agreements.”
