11 Tech Associations Urge Congress To Pass USMCA

“The time is now for Congress to pass USMCA, a trade agreement that reflects our 21st century economy.”

Jordan Haas, Director, Trade Policy

Washington, DC – Internet Association and 10 other trade associations representing a broad group of tech industries today sent a letter to Congress urging the speedy passage of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The letter underlines the agreement’s strong digital trade provisions and the need for modernized rules that reflect America’s digital framework.

“USMCA would be a victory for the entire U.S. economy and companies of all sizes,” said IA Director, Trade Policy Jordan Haas. “Every sector of the economy relies on America’s digital framework to succeed, yet the original NAFTA doesn’t even include the word ‘internet.’ The time is now for Congress to pass USMCA, a trade agreement that reflects our 21st century economy.”

The letter urges Congress to pass the agreement “as soon as possible.” Along with IA, ACT | The App Association, BSA: The Software Alliance, Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Consumer Technology Association (CTA), i2Coalition, Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), and TechNet signed onto the letter.

From the letter: “USMCA’s Digital Trade Chapter – along with provisions in the Intellectual Property, Financial Services, Customs Administration and Trade Facilitation, and other chapters – set a new, global standard for rules that will benefit digital trade and e-commerce.”
