Internet Association And Rep. John Curtis Highlight The Value Of The Internet To Small Businesses And Community Organizations In Holladay, UT

Holladay, UT – Internet Association (IA) and Congressman John Curtis (R-UT-3) today will tour small businesses and community organizations in Holladay, UT as part of an “Internet Community Crawl” to discuss how local businesses, nonprofits, and community groups use the internet to expand and succeed.

“The local business community and residents of Holladay – like many communities across America – stand to gain the most from the internet economy,” said IA President and CEO Michael Beckerman. “The internet provides small businesses and community organizations an opportunity to create jobs, reach new customers, and strengthen the local community. The internet industry thanks Rep. Curtis for joining us in Holladay and his continued leadership in supporting small businesses that are working to grow and innovate.”

Internet Association, IA member companies, and Rep. Curtis, as well as Utah’s 8th Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox will visit four Holladay businesses that use the internet to build their business and engage with local residents. The internet economy contributes $14.5 billion to Utah’s economy and employs nearly 40,000 Utahns, according to IA research.

“Meeting with small business owners and entrepreneurs across Utah is essential to doing my job in Congress. I introduced the Small Business ACE Act after a constituent told me that getting access to capital should be easier for small businesses,” said Rep. Curtis. “As a former business owner and now a member of the Small Business Committee, I’m looking forward to spending the day in Holladay and having conversations about what I can continue doing to keep the federal government from getting in the way of small business success.”

The Holladay crawl will highlight the following local businesses and community organizations:

  • SwimKids – A family-owned and operated business that focuses on skilled swimming for kids. SwimKids, now open for 30 years in Holladay, offers online registration and a calendar of events making it easier for them to connect with busy families.
  • 3 Cups – A local coffee shop focused on providing high quality coffee and pastries. 3 Cups uses every aspect of the internet for its business, including online advertising and online table and event reservations, as well as promoting day to day functions on their social channels.
  • Soho Food Park – A park that opened in 2015 as a place for families to enjoy local food trucks in an open space. Soho Food Park, which recently installed WiFi to improve the businesses and customers experiences, uses its social platforms to inform the community about what trucks are featured, the schedule for the week, and to provide a direct line to local residents who frequent the park.
  • Auntie Rae’s Dessert Island – A dessert shop that was created 10 years ago as a place where friends and family could gather and enjoy good food. Auntie Rae’s used online review platforms and social media to establish itself as the perfect stop for events, parties, or a late-night snack.
