DALEY
Washington, DC – In a milestone event for the fight against organized retail crime in Illinois, Internet Association joined Attorney General Kwame Raoul in announcing the launch of an Organized Crime Retail Theft Task Force.
Representing Internet Association on behalf of over 40 internet companies, including multiple online marketplaces, was Colleen Daley, Director, State Government Affairs, Midwest Region. In her remarks during the event, she stated, “Effectively combating the rise in organized retail crime requires close collaboration between the entities represented up here today — including law enforcement, retail stores, and online marketplaces. These criminal activities are most successfully disrupted when all legs of the stool are working together.”
She continued, “This Task Force will serve as a critical central coordinating entity. By leveraging the knowledge and intel of other key stakeholders, law enforcement will be able pursue these cases in a more collaborative way, and achieve positive outcomes more often. This model has already proven successful in other states — as some of the biggest busts we’ve seen have involved the coordinating assistance of a state ORC task force — and we feel strongly that more states should follow the path being taken here in Illinois by Attorney General Raoul.”
