Internet Industry Launches Campaign Urging Congress To Pass Comprehensive Federal Privacy Legislation

“There is broad bipartisan consensus for a federal privacy law, providing a unique opportunity in Washington to make significant progress on comprehensive, economy-wide legislation. The time to act is now, and Congress must lead the way in providing strong privacy protections for all Americans.”

Washington, DC – Internet Association (IA) today launched “Privacy For All Americans,” a digital and advertising campaign urging Congress to pass an economy-wide, federal data privacy law. The campaign, centered around privacyforallamericans.com, includes digital and radio advertising buys in targeted states and districts across the United States.

“Passing comprehensive, federal privacy legislation in the 116th Congress is a top priority for the internet industry,” said IA President & CEO Michael Beckerman. “Internet companies stand ready with the broader business community to support unified, national privacy legislation. Today’s data-driven economy has revolutionized every aspect of our lives, both online and offline. It’s important that Americans have clear and consistent privacy protections regardless of where they live or the type of company they interact with.”

IA member companies published Privacy Principles last year and continue to call on Congress to pass a federal privacy law that provides Americans meaningful control and the ability to access, correct, delete, and download data they’ve provided to companies across all industries.
