Statement On The Restoring America’s Leadership in Innovation Act

Washington, DC – Internet Association Senior Vice President, Global Government Affairs Melika Carroll issued the following statement on the Restoring America’s Leadership in Innovation Act:

The Restoring America’s Leadership in Innovation Act would hurt job creators and inventors in the U.S. by undoing the progress made by Congress in the America Invents Act (AIA) and recent decisions by the courts. America’s patent system thrives thanks to our country’s world-class inventors and a patent system that fosters innovation, thanks to legislation like the 2011 America Invents Act. The inter partes review process in AIA and the court’s decision in Alice are integral parts of the system. In fact, the U.S. ranks number one overall in the U.S. Chamber International IP Index and R&D investments in the software and internet industry grew faster than any other industry in the years following the Alice decision. We should be looking to strengthen our balanced patent system rather than undoing the progress we’ve made.
