Statement on Announcement of Global Tax Deal

Washington, DC – Today, IA President and CEO K. Dane Snowden released the following statement in response to the announcement that the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework on BEPS reached widespread consensus on a deal for global tax reform:

“Internet Association commends the OECD and the nearly 140 participating member governments and jurisdictions for their efforts to establish a modern, multilateral framework for taxation that will provide certainty for internet companies and improve the digital economy for internet users worldwide. While we continue to evaluate the details of this agreement and there will be more work to do, we appreciate the leadership of the Biden administration, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, to encourage this multilateral effort and recognize that digital sales taxes (DSTs) jeopardize international commerce. We encourage all governments and jurisdictions to move swiftly to eliminate these discriminatory taxes.”
