Statement On Announcement That France Will Begin Collecting Its Digital Services Tax

Washington, DC – Internet Association Director, Trade Policy Jordan Haas issued the following statement on French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire statement that France will begin collecting its digital services tax (DST) on American digital companies in December:

“The internet industry condemns France’s decision to move forward with collecting its unfair, discriminatory DST on American companies. Global tax rules should be updated for the digital age through the ongoing OECD process – something that was reaffirmed just this week at the G20 Finance Ministers meeting. It is important that USTR exercise American leadership to stem this and any other new discriminatory taxes against U.S. companies and we look forward to working with USTR throughout this process.”
