Statement On Foreign Digital Censorship Laws

Washington, DC – Today, Internet Association (IA) Director of Trade Policy Jordan Haas issued the following statement on foreign digital censorship laws. IA filed detailed comments to the United States International Trade Commission’s (USITC) investigation on the same topic.

“Digital policies are increasingly being used by governments around the world to censor their citizens, which consequently harms U.S. digital companies’ ability to operate. These censorship laws are often associated with countries such as China, Russia, and North Korea, but some of the strongest censorship pressure is presently coming from traditional U.S. allies such as Canada, India, the UK, and the EU. The U.S. government should fight for the adoption of America’s digital framework across the world in order to ensure equal internet access for all people.”
