Statement On France’s Proposed Digital Services Tax
Washington, DC – Internet Association Director, Trade Policy, Jordan Haas issued the following statement on the announcement that France would impose a new digital services tax:
“This discriminatory tax plan targeting internet companies failed at the European Commission, and it is troubling that France is pursuing a go it alone approach that will create double taxation for these businesses. Taxation of digital services by France threatens to undermine agreed-upon international frameworks at a time when we are working to open transatlantic trade and investment. IA supports the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) ongoing efforts to reach a global approach to the taxation of multinational enterprises in a rapidly digitizing economy.”
