Statement On The House Energy And Commerce Joint Subcommittee Hearing Entitled “Fostering A Healthier Internet To Protect Consumers.”

Washington, DC – IA President & CEO Michael Beckerman released the following statement on the joint Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce of the Committee hearing entitled “Fostering A Healthier Internet To Protect Consumers”:

“Section 230 enables the best of the internet. It allows internet users to post their own content and engage with the content of others, whether that content is a review or rating, a photo of a loved one, or a job description.

“Section 230 also gives platforms the ability to moderate and delete harmful or illegal content posted on their platform without fear of facing liability for doing so. The actions that policymakers want online platforms to take against a wide range of inappropriate content are enabled by Section 230 and platforms acting responsibly should be encouraged.”
