Statement On USMCA Coming Into Force

Washington, DC – IA Director, Trade Policy Jordan Haas released the following statement on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) coming into force:

“USMCA represents a tremendous success for every American business that uses the internet to grow jobs, export, and compete in the 21st century. This agreement’s strong digital trade provisions set an exemplary standard for future trade deals. The provisions in USMCA that prohibit data flow restrictions, ensure intermediary liability protections, uphold copyright safe harbors, and smooth customs and trade facilitation, to name just a few, will help bolster our digital economy, which is already America’s largest trade surplus.

“The internet industry commends all of the parties involved in bringing this critical trade agreement into force and looks forward to continuing to ensure that digital businesses are able to fully benefit from all of its provisions for years to come.”
