Statement on USTR’s Special 301 Review

Washington, DC – Internet Association Director, Trade Policy Jordan Haas issued the following statement on the submission of Internet Association’s 2019 Special 301 Review:

“Other countries are attempting to chip away at America’s innovation-oriented copyright framework, and the internet industry urges USTR to include a substantive discussion of this issue in their 2019 Special 301 Report. America’s copyright framework has created immense benefits for consumers, content creators, and internet services alike. Copyright safe harbors like DMCA 512, limitations and exceptions like fair use, and intermediary liability protections are critical to the digital economy. Other countries should not use unbalanced copyright systems to harm U.S. companies’ ability to be competitive and reach consumers.”
