European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and his First Vice-President Frans Timmermans outlined their top 10 priorities for the newly-elected Commission in a November 12, 2104 letter.

Of note, Jucker plans to advance Europe’s Digital Single Market through two major reforms of its telecommunication regulations and copyright law.  In addition to seeking inter-institutional support and commitments, the letter notes that “we will also take this opportunity to review and if necessary withdraw some pending proposals.”  It’s hard to say what this will mean for the already existing efforts in both of these areas, but this could be an open invitation for  commissioners to wipe the slate clean on the previously proposed EU telecom legislation, including rules on net neutrality.

With the U.S. Federal Communications Commission also grappling with net neutrality rules, one thing that’s certain is that 2015 will be the year of net neutrality on both sides of the Atlantic.
